Week 2 Term 4 in the Learning Hub

This week in the Hub

Individual events included

  • Photoshop tutorial for students.
  • Year 8 Big Idea presentations (Photos of this massive event to follow). After all their hard work in term 3 the students got to present their outcomes to peers and staff on Tuesday morning in the Hub. Lots of excitement and a motor bike!
  • Morphett Vale East Primary students visited Wirreanda for their STEAM activity – just how do you make a robot that can smash an egg? If you don’t know have a look at the photo below for some hints, the students have been very productive.
  • Google classroom is about to hit the school in a big way. Staff who had attended this year’s GAFE summit in the holidays gave their own version of a “3 minute slam” to showcase some of the new tools available through google. The presentations, which were more than 3 minutes long, are on the blog under the For Staff link. Screen Shot 2015-10-20 at 7.50.01 pm
  • Research Project Forum – all Stage I students at Wirreanda will undertake their Research Project next year. The Hub will play a huge role in facilitating their individual learning.
  • Schoolflix – Students are being encouraged to turn their mobile device into a movie studio and create a 90 second movie. This competition, coordinated through the learning hub is open to students from Wirreanda and other schools. Complete this form to register for Schoolflix.

Ongoing learning included

  • Horror Movie – year 9 students are currently scripting a short horror movie and will begin filming in a few weeks
  • Another year 9 class has begun their 3D interactive poster to display their learning about an ecosystem. The Learning Hub team have purchased new equipment and materials, which are stored in our brand, shiny new shelves and cupboards, to help students create interactive displays. The progress so far looks great.
